Over the past 10 years, Selina has assisted nearly one thousand brides in the San Francisco Bay Area. During this time, she discovered that most of her brides have many questions about what to do with their face, skin, and hair in the month preceding the wedding.

Selina can advise on the best ways to care for your face and hair to make sure you don’t have any unnecessary breakouts, swollen eyes, or other wedding day catastrophes. Here are her beauty tips and tricks:

  • Face and body
    • Several tips for perfect skin on wedding day:
      • Don’t stay up late
      • Eat more vegetables before the wedding
      • Don’t worry, be happy
    • Do a weekly facial and body scrub the month before the wedding and maintain your usual skin care routine.
    • Refrain from using any acne removal methods the week before the wedding. These can lead to skin rash, which will affect the makeup result.
    • Skin moisture is essential especially in autumn and winter. Apply body lotion more often to avoid peeling skin or rashes.
  • Hair
    • Hair longer than shoulder length will look better than a short hair cut.
    • If you cut your hair before the wedding, we recommend long hair with a one-length cut or high volume hair to more easily create an elegant, layered style.
    • Highlights and spiral perms can be done one month before the wedding. Skip ion perm on naturally curly hair.
  • The day before wedding
    • Remove underarm hair.
    • Wash hair thoroughly but don’t apply conditioner or treatment.
    • Apply lip balm and remove fingernail paint before bed.
    • If you can’t fall asleep, close your eyes to relax and let your eyes rest. Don’t drink too much water before bed to avoid swollen eyes.
    • Apply additional body lotion before bed if you have dry skin. It allows for smooth application of makeup powder.
  • On wedding day
    • Wear a shirt with an open front or wide neck.
    • Wash your face, and apply toner and lotion. Contact lenses should be put in before applying makeup.
    • Eat breakfast.
    • A large mirror (at least half your height) and a well-lit room are helpful tools.
    • Inform the makeup artist if you need to put on any special accessories according to your wedding customs.
  • After the wedding
    • Take out contact lens before removing makeup. Remove makeup in the following order: lips, fake eyelashes, eye shadow, then face. A quick tip to remove eye shadow: let your cotton pad absorb the makeup remover then place it on your eye shadow for two minutes before wiping.
    • Apply conditioner once or twice before shampooing.
  • Last but not least - live happily ever after.
